Description
1966 Maserati Sebring 3700 GTI
Chassis AM 101 S 10 271
Engine 0431
French registration document
- Highly sought-after 3700 version
- Original French import: delivered new to Trépenier
- Restoration project: on hold since 1991
The car shown here was delivered new on 24 March 1966 to Thépenier, the official French importer of Maserati. Fitted at the factory with the optional 3.7-litre engine, it was also equipped with wire-spoke wheels and a limited-slip differential. Owing to this first-class specification, this Sebring initially served as a demonstration vehicle for the importer. Later in 1966, it was sold to its first private owner, Mr Vigan, in exchange for his Lancia Flaminia Zagato.
In 1969, the car was registered in the Moselle department. Originally delivered in Amaranto Roma, the bodywork was repainted in its current silver shade during the 1970s, a change attested to by a period photograph included in the file. In 1987, the coupé was registered in Paris, before entering the collection of its current owner in 1989.
The owner promptly had it stored in a closed facility, a state of static preservation confirmed by a photograph dating back to at least 1991.
Due to this period of continuous inactivity lasting approximately 35 years, this Maserati now requires a complete restoration. The bodywork has been largely spared from the structural ravages of time thanks to its prolonged storage. The car retains its original mechanical configuration with its Lucas fuel injection system, although certain components related to the cooling system are currently removed and supplied with the vehicle.
This Maserati Sebring 3700 Series II has a crystal-clear history, marked by its early days as a demonstration vehicle at Thépenier and ownership by the same owner since 1989. Offered after being off the road for over three decades, which has preserved its bodywork, it provides an attractive restoration project for a model of which only 242 were produced.
