Description
1955 FORD THUNDERBIRD CONVERTIBLE
• French classic car registration document
• Chassis number: P5FH254422
• 292 cu in V8 engine
• 3-speed automatic transmission
Created in response to the arrival of the Corvette a year earlier, the Thunderbird adopted the same formula of a small two-seater convertible, but featured a V8 where the Chevrolet had to make do with a six-cylinder. In its first year on the market, in 1955, Ford sold 16,000 units: an immediate success that confirmed the American market’s appetite for this type of car.
The 4,788 cc V8 engine with a four-barrel carburettor produced 193 bhp and was paired with a three-speed manual gearbox. The front suspension is independent. The design, with its characteristic hardtop and soft top, remains one of the most recognisable silhouettes of 1950s American motoring.
The example on offer, chassis number P5FH254422, left the factory in 1955 in the United States before being acquired by its current owner in 2018. The vehicle is in good overall condition, clean both inside and out, reflecting a previous restoration. It should be noted that there are a few minor areas of corrosion, which are not serious.
The engine starts and the vehicle runs. An invoice dated 2026 confirms the carburettor tuning and the installation of an electronic ignition system, at a cost of €1,200. The odometer currently reads 12,996 miles.
The car is in good overall condition and roadworthy, a fine opportunity to acquire one of the most iconic American convertibles of the 1950s.
