Description
1972 MATRA 530 No reserve French registration document Chassis number 9945 Original specification A fine restoration project. In the late 1960s, Matra sought to offer an original sports car that was also suitable for everyday use. The Matra 530 was unveiled in 1967, taking a different approach to the classic sports cars of the era. Its name refers to the R.530 missile developed by the group’s aeronautics division, reflecting Matra’s technological heritage. The car was fitted with a 1.7-litre Ford V4 engine, derived from the Taunus, mounted in a mid-rear position. This choice improved the car’s overall balance whilst retaining simple and reliable mechanics. Designed by Philippe Guédon, the Matra 530 also stands out for its polyester resin bodywork and removable targa roof. It thus combines the spirit of a sports coupé with a certain versatility of use. The 9945 chassis presented here comes from Poitou, where it has spent its entire life. It was delivered new on 16 August 1972 to Mr André Vives, residing in Poitiers. He kept it for three years before selling it in 1975 to its second owner. It was on 1 February 1977 that our seller purchased this Matra upon his return from Africa. It was his first car, which he has cherished for the past 49 years. The car has remained in its original condition. Never restored, the ravages of time have made it a fine base for a restoration project. Indeed, whilst mechanical work has been carried out recently (no invoices available) to keep it roadworthy, the chassis, bodywork and upholstery require attention from its future owner, offering the opportunity to breathe new life into one of the most unique and endearing models in French motoring history. 1972 MATRA 530 French registration document Chassis number 9945 Original specification A fine restoration project.
