One of the most iconic French motorbikes of the interwar period. - Considered the oldest of the French brands, René Gillet was established in 1895 in Montrouge on the outskirts of Paris. It specialised in the manufacture of large 750 and 1,000 cm3 twin-cylinder motorcycles. - The brand introduced its first 500cc V-twin, the E-type, in 1905, an engine that it continued to develop over the next 50 years. From 1922 onwards, the factory also manufactured motorbikes for the administration and the armed forces, the type G, which was an example of robustness and was very often coupled. - Renowned for their robustness and reliability, René Gillet motorbikes were particularly popular with the army and police. - The motorbike we are presenting is a Type G1. It has benefited from an old restoration. This is a particularly rare and interesting motorbike, typical of the fine French production of the inter-war period... - The engine is stamped G1 (Type G), 5739 (serial number?), 2.11.38 (certainly the date of assembly). The brackets for attaching a sidecar to the right-hand side are still there. - Considered the oldest of the French motorbike brands, René Gillet had been established since 1895 in Montrouge, a suburb of Paris.
