Description
1978 - FERRARI 308 GT4 LM REPLICA French registration Vehicle prepared for competition, sold without technical inspection Chassis no. F106AL13650 - Presented at the 1973 Paris Motor Show, the Dino 308 GT4 was the successor to the Dino 246 GT. It was the first completely new model since Fiat took control of Ferrari in 1969. It was powered by a Maranello-built 3-litre V8 engine mounted transversely in the rear mid-engine position. This V8 with 4 overhead camshafts formed a single unit with the gearbox and self-locking differential. It develops 250 bhp. - Prepared for racing by the Ferrari factory, the car was christened the 308 GT4/LM and entered in the 1974 Le Mans 24 Hours by N.A.R.T. for drivers Giancarlo Gagliardi and Jean-Louis Lafosse. They managed to qualify the 308 GT4/LM in 38th position, which was a fine performance given that the car had just been completed shortly before qualifying and had not benefited from extensive testing before the race. In the end, a clutch failure forced the 308 GT4/LM to retire after 30 laps... - The Ferrari presented here is therefore a faithful replica of the 1974 Le Mans 308 entered by the NART, which was purchased around 2015 by the current owner, even though the car was already in the running and held an FIA Historic Regularity passport, as well as shining in a number of rallies in France. - The idea of making a replica of the 1974 Le Mans was launched, and several years of construction followed with the help of passionate and skilled craftsmen. The bodywork was sent to Italy, with all the aluminium doors and windows made by Cazzola (the Michelotto family's historic coachbuilder), as well as the wing, and you have to admire the degree of finish (an extensive file on the construction can be consulted). The rollover bar, made to measure by Jacques Point, welded and bolted, meets current historic racing homologation standards. The engine, made by the WDB workshops in Magny-Cours, was re-bored to 3.6 litres and dyno-tested (400 bhp), and is fed by an adjustable SODEMO injection system. The superb running gear, with triangles lightened and then reinforced, all on ball joints and adjustable stab bars, corresponds to the Gr.4 specification of the time. The gearbox is spur gear with a cascade of pinions allowing the final gear to be changed, and the top speed can easily exceed 250 km/h. - Today, the car has been fine-tuned, and a long test drive on a circuit will show us that this exceptional 308 is formidably efficient, with the raging engine and gearbox perfectly tuned. The AP Racing 4-piston brakes are long-lasting and overpowering, reassuring the most ardent drivers. In addition to being efficient, this 308 will be the ideal mount for circuit outings and, with the obtaining of a PTH, could be accepted in the greatest historic events such as Le Mans Classic. - Presented at the 1973 Paris Motor Show, the Dino 308 GT4 succeeded the Dino 246 GT.
