The perfect car for Tour Auto 2026!
The perfect car for Tour Auto 2026!
- When the Elan was presented in October 1962, Colin Chapman rejected the idea of using this 'production' model for competition, so as not to retire the Elite and Eleven... A few months later, the plan changed, and the best engineers got together around the cradle. The Elan 26R (for Racing) received chassis reinforcements, a lightweight body, improved suspension and an engine reworked by BRM!
- Our example reappeared in 2007 in the United States, fully prepared for hill-climbing. It was then sent to our continent, and patiently restored to 26R specification with the help of the specialists at Tony Thompson Racing, who had carried out their preparation on the chassis, hull, suspension, front axle and certain elements of the engine!
- In 2009, the previous owner received a certificate from Chris Brown, who was Lotus' archivist at the time... The certificate was unique: the serial number 26/4576 was known to the factory as having been delivered new in 26R specification, but no other information was given. The exchanges referred to a 'dark horse', which was actually unknown to the factory. It is therefore reasonable to assume that this car can be considered a genuine 26R, despite its serial chassis number.
- Today, the car is in very good condition, both cosmetically and mechanically. The 26R is an extremely efficient tool of war, capable of winning the Tour Auto! The car will require very little effort from the next owner to obtain his PTH, as our example has most of the elements required to obtain this precious sesame. We invite you to get in touch with Aguttes to find out what needs to be done before that.
- Now presented at a very attractive price, this 26R is the perfect tool for taking part in the races on the Peter Auto calendar. In these pages, we present you with a highly eligible and extremely competitive car, which will take you all the way to the top of the podiums!
