Vehicle in reasonably good overall condition, requiring restoration to running order. Unveiled in 1973 at the Paris Motor Show to replace the curvaceous Dino 246 GT, the Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 is a unique car in the history of Maranello. To rival the Porsche 911, Enzo Ferrari wanted to offer a compact sports car with a rear-mid-engine layout and four seats (2+2 configuration). Pininfarina claimed it was impossible to combine a mid-engine layout with four seats within a compact footprint. Enzo Ferrari therefore turned to Bertone and its star designer: Marcello Gandini (designer of the legendary Lamborghini Miura, Countach and Lancia Stratos). Gandini pulled off a tour de force by mounting the V8 engine transversely, just in front of the rear axle, whilst still managing to fit two additional seats inside. With its pop-up headlights and taut lines defined by flat surfaces, the Dino 308GT4 caused quite a stir at the time, much like the Ferrari Luce does today. Boasting perfect ergonomics, the cockpit – with its controls angled towards the driver – offers an excellent driving position and exemplary visibility. Under the rear bonnet, the new 2,927 cm³ Ferrari V8, with four camshafts, a flat crankshaft and four carburettors, produces 255 chevaux. It delivers exhilarating revs, up to 7,700 revolutions per minute. Thanks to the mid-engine layout, the Dino 308 GT4’s ideal weight distribution ensures natural and neutral handling. Easy to drive, with space for two children and luggage, whilst still delivering the performance of a true berlinetta (0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h), it is the first Ferrari to offer such versatility. Ivoire Troyes is delighted to offer this 1975 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4, chassis no. 09664, which has been in the same collection for over 40 years. The French classic car registration document bears witness to the vehicle’s history: purchased second-hand from its first owner when the car had clocked up nearly 40,000 km, this Ferrari has always remained in the Aube department (10). Its registration number, 7717 LH 10, is the original one assigned when it was sold new in France by Charles Pozzi in 1975. In the second half of the 1980s, the car underwent a restoration carried out by the renowned Beltramelli coachbuilder. The classic Ferrari yellow colour naturally found its place on the bodywork of the Dino 308 GT4. Despite a few signs of ageing or signs of wear, both the bodywork and the paintwork are still in good condition, with no visible traces of the original colour (metallic grey). Mechanically, the car has been off the road for several years. It will need to be brought back to working order before the Ferrari V8, fitted with a stainless steel exhaust, can be heard. The odometer reads 67,331 km, which appears consistent with the car’s condition. The interior has been particularly well preserved. The upholstery, dashboard and headlining are in very good condition. It should be noted that whilst the registration document states 4 seats, the vehicle does not have a rear bench seat. The interior layout, which appears to be original, suggests that the first owner opted for a rare specification on this model by omitting the rear bench seat. As the first Ferrari to feature the V8 engine that powered many iconic models, this Dino 308 GT4 is a rare model (2,826 units produced) that is now recognised and sought after by collectors. Its innovative design makes it both a practical car and one of the most exciting classic Ferraris to drive. With an attractive price for a Maranello-built car and its status as a 1970s icon designed by Gandini, the Dino 308 GT4 combines qualities that few of its rivals can match.
