Description
ROLLS-ROYCE 20/25 HP 1933 – History: Unveiled in 1929, the Rolls-Royce 20/25 HP succeeded the famous 20 HP, retaining its design philosophy whilst offering greater power and flexibility. Aimed at customers seeking the refinement of Rolls-Royce in a more compact form than the imposing Phantom models, it quickly became one of the brand’s greatest commercial successes. Powered by a 3,669 cm³ straight-six engine, renowned for its reliability, smoothness and quiet operation, the 20/25 was supplied as a bare chassis to be bodied by the most prestigious British coachbuilders, such as Barker, Park Ward, Hooper, Thrupp & Maberly and Gurney Nutting. Produced until 1936 in a run of nearly 3,800 examples, the 20/25 remains one of the most sought-after models of the interwar period thanks to its elegance, exceptional build quality and driving pleasure. Description: The car on display is a Rolls-Royce 20/25 HP Limousine, possibly dating from 1933. The car is presented in an elegant ivory-white and black livery, typical of the grand British motor cars of the era. The limousine body with driver’s partition retains all its original features, notably its Rolls-Royce grille topped by the famous Spirit of Ecstasy, its headlamps, horns, solid-spoke wheels and exterior fittings. The interior appears remarkably complete and authentic. The leather front seats display a beautiful original patina, whilst the rear compartment retains its fabric bench seat, the driver’s partition and all its trim. The door panels, woodwork and interior fittings are all present. The engine compartment retains a particularly consistent appearance with its complete Rolls-Royce six-cylinder engine. No significant modifications have been observed. The vehicle is presented as it has just been removed from storage. A thick layer of dust is visible across the entire bodywork and engine compartment. There is a significant petrol leak beneath the tank. Inspection of the underbody reveals a particularly sound chassis, with side members in good condition and corrosion that is largely superficial, consistent with the vehicle’s age. The bodywork shows numerous defects, such as cracks in the paintwork, in various places.
