TRIUMPH STAG 1972 – History: Unveiled in 1970 and launched in 1971, the Triumph Stag was the grand tourer designed by Triumph to compete with the Mercedes-Benz SL and other high-end convertibles of its time. Designed by the renowned Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, it stood out for its elegant lines, its distinctive central roll bar and its V8 engine developed specifically by Triumph. Available in right-hand or left-hand drive versions depending on the market, the Stag is fitted with a 3-litre V8 engine mated to either a manual or automatic gearbox. Despite a reputation sometimes marred by cooling problems, well-maintained examples are now a pleasure to drive and are particularly sought-after for their unique character. Produced until 1977 with just over 25,000 units built, the Triumph Stag is now one of the most iconic British convertibles of the 1970s.
