Description
MERCEDES-BENZ W110 250D 1965 – History:
Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1961, the Mercedes-Benz 190 D (W110) heralded a new generation of mid-size saloons from the brand with the star emblem. Designed under the direction of Paul Bracq, it featured the famous rear ‘fins’ inspired by American trends, whilst retaining the build quality for which Mercedes-Benz is renowned.
The 190 D was fitted with the robust OM621 diesel engine, a naturally aspirated four-cylinder unit with a displacement of 1,988 cm³, renowned for its reliability and durability. Coupled with a four-speed manual gearbox, it offers modest performance but exceptional endurance, making this model a favourite choice amongst frequent drivers of the 1960s.
Description:
The vehicle on offer is a 1965 Mercedes-Benz 190 D (W110), which has been in long-term storage.
The bodywork is complete but shows signs of corrosion in numerous places, both on the body panels and in the boot, and likely on the underbody as well. Old Belgian roadworthiness test documents also indicate corrosion on the underbody as well as a previous major structural repair. Bodywork restoration will be required.
The boot is complete with its original rubber floor mat and side trims still in place.
The interior remains in a reasonable state of preservation despite the years of inactivity. The red imitation leather upholstery is complete, showing normal wear and a tear on the seat cushion of the rear bench seat. The door panels are present but their armrests are worn. The original dashboard, steering wheel and instrument cluster are still in place.
The engine compartment still houses its diesel engine as well as its I.M.A. manufacturer’s plate from Mechelen. It should be noted, however, that the chassis number stamped on the body does not match the number on the manufacturer’s plate or that shown on the administrative documents provided. This discrepancy must be verified by the purchaser before any administrative procedures are undertaken.
No attempts have been made to restart the engine, and a full mechanical overhaul will be essential before any attempt is made to start it.
