Description
1968 JAGUAR 420 G – History:
Unveiled in 1968, the Jaguar 420 represented the final evolution of Jaguar’s compact saloons derived from the Mark II. Produced for a short period between 1966 and 1968, it featured the mechanical components of the Type S combined with the front end of the prestigious 420G. Fitted with the famous 4.2-litre XK six-cylinder engine, it was available with a manual gearbox with overdrive or a Borg-Warner automatic transmission.
Description:
This 1968 Jaguar 420 is fitted with the famous 4,235 cm³ XK inline six-cylinder engine, paired with an automatic gearbox.
According to the documentation accompanying the vehicle, this Jaguar has undergone a period-correct restoration. The numerous photo albums document the various works carried out at the time, notably on the bodywork, the doors and windows, and several mechanical components
Today, the bodywork shows significant deterioration due to this long period of inactivity. The paintwork is very worn, numerous signs of oxidation are visible on the various panels, and several components show advanced corrosion. The underbody, sills and various parts of the bodywork will need to be carefully inspected before any repair work can begin. Despite the significant amount of work already carried out in the past, a complete restoration must now be considered in order to address the damage that has occurred whilst the car was in storage.
The interior also requires a complete restoration. The years of inactivity have taken a heavy toll on the trim, and all interior components will need to be refurbished or replaced depending on the desired level of restoration.
The engine compartment appears visually complete. The XK six-cylinder engine is still in place with its main accessories and appears to be in its original configuration. However, the whole unit shows significant signs of storage wear. The engine has not been started and no test run has been carried out. A full mechanical overhaul will be essential before any attempt is made to start it.
The vehicle comes with a particularly comprehensive history file, comprising the British registration documents (V5), several old MOT certificates, correspondence, as well as several photo albums detailing the restoration work carried out in the past. This collection provides a fascinating history, documenting the vehicle’s development over the years.
