Animée par un spectaculaire V8 de 6,9 litres développant plus de 280 chevaux, équipée d’une suspension hydropneumatique et capable de performances comparables à certaines sportives contemporaines, la 450 SEL 6.9 s’impose rapidement comme une référence absolue du grand tourisme à l’allemande, notamment auprès des stars et pilotes : James Hunt, Jacques Laffite, Niki Lauda, Claude François, Alain Delon.
L’exemplaire proposé à la vente présente un intérêt particulier par son historique. Il s’agit en effet d’une première main, élément rare sur ce modèle devenu hautement collectionnable. L’histoire de cette voiture est atypique : son premier propriétaire, ingénieur, décide en 1975 de remplacer sa 6.3 par la nouveauté : la 6.9. Le modèle étant alors introuvable en France, il la commande en Allemagne. Il l’utilisera jusqu’à son décès en 1980 ; la voiture sera alors immobilisée et conservée par la famille en souvenir.
Cette 450 SEL 6.9 n’a jamais repris la route depuis et se présente aujourd’hui comme un véritable projet de restauration.
Le kilométrage affiché, un peu plus de 150 000 km, est annoncé comme étant d’origine, renforçant encore l’authenticité de cette automobile. Toutefois, une restauration complète sera à prévoir à la suite de ses 40 ans d’immobilisation.

Powered by a spectacular 6.9-liter V8 producing over 280 horsepower, equipped with air suspension, and capable of performance comparable to certain contemporary sports cars, the 450 SEL 6.9 quickly established itself as the gold standard of German grand touring, particularly among celebrities and race car drivers: James Hunt, Jacques Laffite, Niki Lauda, Claude François, Alain Delon.
The example offered for sale is of particular interest due to its history. It is, in fact, a first-owner car, a rarity for this model, which has become highly collectible. The history of this car is unusual: its first owner, an engineer, decided in 1975 to replace his 6.3 with the latest model: the 6.9. Since the model was unavailable in France at the time, he ordered it from Germany. He drove it until his death in 1980; the car was then taken off the road and kept by the family as a memento.
This 450 SEL 6.9 has never been driven since and now presents itself as a true restoration project.
The odometer reading, just over 150,000 km, is reported to be original, further reinforcing the authenticity of this automobile. However, a complete restoration will be required following its 40 years of inactivity.
