The Savoia-Marchetti S.55A aircraft flew from Orbetello, Italy, to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Intended to promote the reliability of Italian aviation and strengthen ties with the Italian community in Brazil, this raid foreshadowed the celebrated 1933 Chicago–New York air cruise.
