Av. LUD. XV. D. G. FR. ET NAV. REX. Tête à gauche du Roi, ceinte d’un bandeau. Signature JCR sur la tranche du cou.
Rv. SIT. NOMEN. DOMINI. BENEDICTUM. (date). Écu de France ovale, couronné, entre deux rameaux d’olivier.

Frappe spéciale (SP) avec les reliefs satinés et les champs miroir. Deux petits chocs devant le menton et une rayure sur le cou. Minimes hairlines dans les champs. Belle patine dorée aux reflets verdâtres. Superbe à Fleur de coin.
Œuvre de Joseph Charles Roëttiers (1693-1779), cette frappe spéciale inaugure un nouveau type monétaire qui sera frappé durant plus de 30 années ! L’axe est à 12 heures, en frappe médaille, avec des listels larges et non un grènetis comme la frappe courante. Enfin, le différent du maître de Paris Mathieu Renard de Petiton, un renard sous le buste, manque. D’après J. Lafaurie il aurait été frappé 50 exemplaires de ces pièces (Lafaurie 1974, p. 509, d'après H. Hoffmann, catalogue de la vente de la collection Regnault, 14-16 juin 1875, p. 50, n° 593, d’après G. Conbrouse, Choix de monnaies et médailles des rois Capétiens, Valois et Bourbons composant la suite iconographique de M. G. Conbrouse.- Paris, 1845.- p. 31-32, n° 81 mais aucun élément ne permet de confirmer ce chiffre). Une dizaine d’exemplaires connus, tous issus des mêmes carrés de droit et de revers.

PCGS SP62+. Special Strike (SP) with satin-finish relief and mirror-like fields. Two small impacts in front of the chin and a scratch on the neck. Minimal hairline scratches in the fields. Beautiful golden patina with greenish reflections. About uncirculated to Mint State

A work by Joseph Charles Roëttiers (1693–1779), this special issue marks the debut of a new coin type that would be minted for over 30 years! The axis is at 12 o’clock, in medal strike, with wide rims rather than a beaded pattern like the standard issue. Finally, the die mark of the Paris master mint master Mathieu Renard de Petiton—a fox beneath the bust—is missing. According to J. Lafaurie, 50 copies of these coins were struck (Lafaurie 1974, p. 509, based on H. Hoffmann, catalog of the Regnault Collection auction, June 14–16, 1875, p. 50, no. 593; according to G. Conbrouse, "Choix de monnaies et médailles des rois Capétiens, Valois et Bourbons composant la suite iconographique de M. G. Conbrouse".—Paris, 1845.—pp. 31–32, no. 81, but there is no evidence to confirm this figure). About ten known examples, all from the same obverse and reverse dies.
