Avec une description de la machine dont il faut se servir pour cet effet, ses proprietes & ses usages, confirmz par plusieurs expériences. Paris, Estienne Michallet, 1682. In-12, brown calf, ornate spine, mottled edges (period binding). French first edition of this important work on the invention of the pressure cooker. It includes 2 fold-out plates. An extremely rare copy of the first state (word "fin" at the bottom of p. 158, without pp. 159-164 and the 6 ff. containing the two Advis). Papin first published this work in London in 1681. In this French edition, he describes the improvements made to his machine over the last year. This invention made it possible to extract gelatin from bones and use it as a food substance, and in 1707 to build a steamboat with four paddle wheels. Papin died in poverty in London in 1714.
