Fondée en 1921, la marque Georges Irat produit environ 200 voitures par an jusqu'à la fin des années 1920, avant de traverser une crise financière liée à ses ambitions autour des gros moteurs américains Lycoming. C'est en 1936 qu'elle se relève grâce à un petit roadster sportif à moteur Ruby 1 100 cm³ à traction avant. En 1938 apparaît la gamme « O », dotée d'une suspension innovante à anneaux de caoutchouc, ainsi nommée en référence à la forme circulaire de ses éléments élastiques, offrant un gain de poids et de souplesse appréciable par rapport aux classiques ressorts à lames.
Cette Georges Irat est équipée du moteur Ruby type DU de 6 CV, d'une cylindrée de 1 078 cm³, développant 37 ch. Légère et agile, elle séduit encore aujourd'hui les collectionneurs par ses qualités routières et son caractère joueur. La production totale de Georges Irat durant l'entre-deux-guerres n'atteindra que 2 925 automobiles, ce qui confère à chaque exemplaire survivant une rareté indéniable.
L'exemplaire présenté, numéro de châssis 1508, est sorti d'usine en 1938 en France avant d’être acquis par son propriétaire actuel en 1993 puis immatriculé en 2015. Il est en état de fonctionnement et se présente dans un état esthétique soigné. La propriétaire actuelle a fait restaurer cette voiture deux fois au cours de sa vie (factures non disponibles). Le moteur démarre et tourne correctement. On notera toutefois un défaut de suspension à l'arrière gauche, qui entraîne une inclinaison du véhicule de ce côté et devra faire l'objet d'une intervention. Les anneaux de suspensions neufs sont présents avec la voiture et seront à remplacer.

Founded in 1921, the Georges Irat brand produced around 200 cars per year until the late 1920s, before going through a financial crisis linked to its ambitions concerning large American Lycoming engines. It recovered in 1936 thanks to a small, sporty front-wheel-drive roadster powered by a 1,100 cc Ruby engine. In 1938, the "O" range was introduced, featuring an innovative rubber-ring suspension, named after the circular shape of its elastic elements. This offered a significant saving in weight and improved flexibility compared to traditional leaf springs.
This Georges Irat is equipped with a 6 CV Ruby type DU engine, with a displacement of 1,078 cc, developing 37 hp. Light and agile, it still appeals to collectors today with its driving dynamics and playful character. Total production of Georges Irat automobiles during the interwar period reached only 2,925, which gives every surviving example an undeniable rarity.
The example presented here, chassis number 1508, left the factory in France in 1938 before being acquired by its current owner in 1993 and subsequently registered in 2015. It is in running order and presents in a well-kept cosmetic condition. The current owner has had this car restored twice during her ownership (invoices not available). The engine starts and runs properly. However, it should be noted that there is a suspension defect on the rear left, which causes the vehicle to lean on that side and will require attention. New suspension rings are included with the car and will need to be installed.
A highly rare French roadster from the 1930s, in beautiful condition considering its age.
