Grégory PONS is a specialist in American aviation during the Second World War. As an enthusiast, his interests have evolved over the years to focus on personalised items, with a particular interest in telling their stories. In the late 1990s, he began to specialise in period photographs, particularly those found in photo albums compiled by airmen or their families. He wrote his first article at the age of 24 for Militaria Magazine and gradually forged links with veterans in the United States, whom he met on several occasions. This significant milestone led him, in particular, to the remote reaches of Texas in 2001, where a chance encounter gave him access to his first personal photographic collection belonging to a veteran, who entrusted him with his notebook containing personal notes taken during his missions whilst stationed in England. As his collection grew, these unique items enabled him to tell the remarkable stories of these airmen, whose lives were unlike any others. He is convinced that the exceptional quality of the original photographs makes it possible to publish them in large format and provide readers with an immersive experience, enabling them to gain a better understanding of the airmen’s daily lives. Author of several books: • 8th Air Force – American Heavy Bomber Groups in England 1942– 1945, • 9th Air Force – American Tactical Air Groups in Europe 1942–1945, • USMC Aviators – Marine Corps Aviators in the Pacific 1941–1945, • as well as over 60 articles in various French magazines (Le Fana de l’Aviation, Aéro Journal, Uniformes, 39-45 Magazine, Reportages de Guerre…) and across the Atlantic in Wings of Gold and the quarterly journal of the American Aviation Historical Society, of which he was a member. Grégory chose to share his collection of photographs with the general public, which also led him to collaborate with the renowned illustrator Romain Hugault as a consultant on several volumes of the *Angel Wings* series. Through this work, dedicated to the everyday lives of these men, he has always seen himself as a custodian of history. After all these years, he has decided to part with this collection, passing it on to enthusiasts who will become its new custodians.
