A Collector's World Tour ... an invitation to travel between the Orient and the Far East. Between imperial China, princely India and the Orient of travellers, this sale invites you to take a journey through centuries and cultures, with a collection of works and objets d'art revealing the full richness of Asian and Oriental artistic traditions. The first part is devoted to Asian art, with a collection of Chinese jades, a seal attributed to the Yongle emperor and an elegant small vase in cloisonné enamel from the Qianlong period. Pieces of furniture and sculptures from South Asia and Vietnam also illustrate the diversity and refinement of Asian art. The second part of the exhibition focuses on the arts of the Orient, India and North Africa. It includes a major group of Indian paintings from the collection of a French diplomat who was posted to India in the 1970s, a remarkable Saudi Arabian shamshir sword given to Ali Aref Bourhan, statesman and former President of the Djibouti Governing Council, and a group of Orientalist paintings. Iranian works by Qollar Aqasi and the singular compositions of Baya enrich this collection devoted to the views, stories and imaginations of the Orient.
